About Me

Hello!
I’m Chris and I’m the web producer and copywriter for Layar – the world’s leading mobile augmented reality platform. I moved to Amsterdam for this job in October of 2010 and have been enjoying myself in the land of the Dutch ever since. For Layar I produce blog posts, web page content, videos, newsletters and app copy – basically I’m the monkey at the a typewriter. It’s a great job with a great company, and I’m thoroughly enjoying myself here in Europe.
Formerly I was a writer for ReadWriteWeb, a source for deep analysis of Web technology and one the most popular blogs on the Internet. I wrote mainly on resources for early-stage startups and first-time entrepreneurs in the site’s ReadWriteStart channel, but I also wrote on trends of emerging technology and augmented reality. In March of 2010, I authored a premier report on augmented reality published and sold by ReadWriteWeb – the third in their series of reports.
I was also one of seven writers chosen from hundreds of applicants to help launch a tech blog for GeekBeat.TV – an internet TV show and video podcast hosted by Cali Lewis. Right now, as I focus on my fulltime work with Layar, my posting frequency for GeekBeat.TV has declined, so I consider myself now an “occasional contributor”. The show is aimed at a broad audience of tech geeks and tech newbies, and is syndicated by the Revision3 network where it is published three times a week.
I received my M.M.C. from Phoenix’s Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication at Arizona State University in December of 2009. Work I completed during my graduate studies has been recognized with awards from both the Broadcast Education Association and the Society for News Design.
During the summer of 2009 I was a News21 Fellow, a Carnegie-Knight initiative to promote innovation and entrepreneurship in journalism. Upon graduation I was named as Outstanding Graduate Student and was also one of 10 inductees into the Kappa Tau Alpha National Honors Society in Journalism.
I finished my undergraduate studies at ASU in May of 2008 with a B.I.S. in Interdisciplinary Studies, focusing on Music and American History. My first major during college was music; I’ve played drums and percussion in various ensembles since middle school.
I am currently a member of the Arizona Wind Symphony, a community ensemble which regularly hold concerts at the Tempe Center for the Arts. During football season, I play with the Arizona Cardinals Drumline and teach the Desert Vista High School Drumline in Ahwatukee, a region of South Phoenix. I was previously a member of the Corona del Sol Aztec Marching Band, and The Academy Drum and Bugle Corps, which won Drum Corps International’s Division II World Championships in 2006.
I currently live and work in the wonderful city of Tempe Chandler, Arizona.
